Distance Connection FAQs

  1. What are the specific computer system requirements for students logging in thru WebEx?  What version of Windows? Can a Mac be used? Does the computer need to have a camera?  Is there a minimum amount of memory needed?  Are there any files that will need to be downloaded to allow access to the course?

  1. What are the specific step by step instructions students will need to go thru to log into the class?

Students are provided a link to join the WebEx class.

  1. How do you download the taped version of a class thru the Mediasite link? What are the specific steps?

Downloading is not an option, recorded lectures can only be streamed. We will provide course catalog links.

  1. If students are viewing the class in a room that does not have a Tandberg unit, what are the minimum things they will need to connect, be seen and view course content (PowerPoint, notes handwritten on a tablet)?  Can they project their laptop image to an overhead projection screen?  Are additional cameras needed in the room so the professor can see the group?

This method is not recommended. WebEx participation is good for individuals, but more than one student at a location should have a dedicated video conference system.

  1. Is there a limit to the # of WebEx users? Is there a limit to the # of connection points?

The limit is determined by classroom management practices with WebEx. The instructor will only see one WebEx student at a time (the active speaker). We suggest WebEx students use headsets for microphone and speakers.

  2. How do I access the software necessary for the classes?

All required software is available and can be accessed by students using their School of Engineering accounts. The instructions can be found at
